VMware vSphere 4 Named “Microsoft Best of Tech•Ed 2010” By Windows IT Pro and SQL Server Magazines
PALO ALTO, Calif., June 17, 2010 —VMware, Inc. (NYSE: VMW), the global leader in virtualization solutions from the desktop through the datacenter to the cloud, today announced that VMware vSphere™ 4 was named as a Winner in the Microsoft Best of Tech•Ed 2010 awards program in the Best Virtualization Product category by Penton Media’s Windows IT Pro® and SQL Server Magazine®. Additionally, vSphere 4 was honored as Microsoft Best of Tech•Ed 2010 Attendees’ Pick, selected by the over 10,000 customers, partners, and staff that attended the conference.
The Best of Tech•Ed 2010 awards recognize companies who offer innovative Microsoft partner products. The Penton Media judges reviewed 298 products and services submitted for the contest and chose 46 finalists to be interviewed at the Microsoft Tech•Ed North America 2010 IT pro conference in New Orleans, Louisiana on June 9, 2010. Winners were announced at an evening reception at the Hard Rock Café on June 9th.
“Choosing the best product in each of 16 categories—from our list of 46 products—was both daunting and exhilarating for our judging panel,” said Jason Bovberg, Senior Editor of Windows IT Pro®. “All 46 finalists represent highly distinguished products and services in their categories.”
The Best of Tech•Ed 2010 Attendees’ Pick distinction is awarded by Penton Media every year to the one product that receives the most votes from the 10,000 plus Tech•Ed attendees. This year vSphere 4 was selected as the winning product out of the nearly 50 exhibited products that were nominated for this award across all categories.
“This is the third year that VMware has been honored in the virtualization category at Microsoft Tech•Ed, and this year’s added distinction of being selected as Best of Tech•Ed 2010 Attendees’ Pick by the conference attendees is a significant honor for our team.” said Timothy Stephan, senior director, product marketing, VMware. “Being chosen as a recipient of the Microsoft Best of Tech•Ed 2010 award from among all the Microsoft Partner IT products at Tech•Ed is very rewarding. Not only does it further solidify VMware vSphere’s position as a game-changing technology - it demonstrates that our customers and partners trust in and stand behind VMware products.”
