BMC Software and VMware to Expand Business and Technology Partnership to Improve Automation and Control of the Virtual Datacenter
Companies sign Letter of Intent for new integrations and reseller agreement that gives customers unique, integrated automation solutions; BMC and VMware are delivering Best Practices and Reference Architecture to manage the Virtual Datacenter Operating System (VDC-OS) from VMware and run BMC Remedy IT Service Management on the VMware platform; Companies announce BMC’s participation in VMware Ready for management solutions and the Alliance Affiliate programs
LAS VEGAS, September 16, 2008 – BMC Software (NYSE: BMC) and VMware (NYSE: VMW) today announced they have signed a Letter of Intent for a significant expansion of their long-standing partnership, including a new reseller agreement and joint development of new integrated management solutions.
The intended agreement gives BMC special integration and reseller access to VMware vCenter Lifecycle Manager (formerly VMware Lifecycle Manager) solutions to create an integrated offering that enables customers with unprecedented control and the ability to drive down operating cost by automating IT processes and reducing the risk of change or configuration errors.
The VMware and BMC integrated automation solution will be based on VMware vCenter Lifecycle Manager and BMC’s Remedy IT Service Management (ITSM) and BMC Atrium Orchestrator (formerly BMC Run Book Automation) products. BMC will resell the integrated solutions, including VMware vCenter Lifecycle Manager. As a result of this collaboration, customers will have a VMware-optimized automation solution that includes a single service request interface to automate change and configuration management across their heterogeneous virtualized and non-virtualized datacenter.
“VMware has successfully reduced the capital expense of owning servers by up to 90 percent,” said Bob Beauchamp, BMC Software’s president and chief executive officer. “Working together, BMC and VMware continue to drive down the cost of managing both physical and virtual servers, as well as the lifecycle of virtual machines. The combination of the industry leading ITSM suite, lifecycle management and automation solutions will allow customers complete control and compliance of their virtual environments.”
BMC and VMware have also jointly validated running ITSM on VMware Infrastructure 3 and are developing reference architecture and best practices (Seven Requirements for Balancing Control and Agility in the Virtual Environment) to guide customers in managing change across the virtual and physical data center. These first deliverables of the expanded VMware and BMC partnership will be released later this month.
“The partnership between BMC Software and VMware can offer customers the right balance between agility and control as they increasingly standardize on VMware as their Virtual Datacenter OS,” said Paul Maritz, president and chief executive officer, VMware. “By expanding our partnership to build and have BMC resell integrated automation solutions, our customers will be able to benefit from complete solutions for efficient management, control and compliance of their virtual datacenters.”
BMC will also offer products as part of the new VMware Ready Program for management solutions. This VMware Ready program leverages the unique capabilities of the VMware vCenter product line to enable a rich ecosystem of partners to qualify and promote solutions that help customers integrate and simplify comprehensive management for Virtual Datacenter Operating System (VDC-OS) from VMware. BMC was also selected to be part of VMware’s Alliance Affiliate Program to engage joint channel partners in delivering these integrated solutions.
Today’s announcement builds on BMC’s earlier announcement of nine new, fully integrated solutions designed to help BMC and VMware customers plan, control, automate and fully manage their physical and virtual IT infrastructures in a unified, integrated way.
