VMware Appoints General Manager for EMEA Region
PALO ALTO, Calif. – December 17, 2008– VMware, Inc. (VMW: NYSE), the global leader in virtualization solutions from the desktop to the datacenter, announced today the appointment of Maurizio Carli as General Manager (GM) of VMware’s Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region. Carli is responsible for strategic planning, business operations and management of key functions for the region, including sales, channels, services and marketing. He will report directly to Carl Eschenbach, Executive Vice President of Worldwide Field Operations, for VMware.
Carli brings more than 20 years of experience in the technology industry and expansive knowledge of the EMEA region across several technology waves and economic cycles, including in-depth experience in emerging markets. He joins VMware from his most recent role as EMEA Managing Director for Google Enterprise. His prior roles include Senior Vice President and General Manager, EMEA for Business Objects and Vice President of the EMEA Software Group for IBM.
"VMware continues to grow as the leader in the virtualization revolution, which many industry analysts believe to be the most important trend in 2009 and beyond,” said Eschenbach. “As global economies continue to tighten, the importance of virtualization only increases, because it addresses a fundamental need of both business and government to do more with less. VMware virtualization has become a strategic platform for over 120,000 customers by reducing hardware and operational costs and increasing optimization, efficiency, flexibility and effectiveness. We’re delighted that Maurizio has joined the VMware executive team and I am confident that his leadership and experience will help us significantly bolster the already strong growth we’re experiencing throughout EMEA.”
“VMware has clearly established virtualization as the fundamental platform for the most effective and efficient enterprise IT,” said Carli. “The challenge now is to show this is just the beginning of the journey, with the promise of cloud computing, for example, beckoning from over the horizon and with VMware playing a crucial role in making it a reality for customers. EMEA presents an incredible opportunity and an interesting challenge. In some countries, IT departments are just now discovering the value proposition of basic server consolidation offered by VMware’s technology; in others the next wave of innovation – including IT resource pooling and automation – is well under way. I am excited to join such an impressive leadership team at this crucial stage for the business.”
