VMware Announces Aggressive Pricing for VMware GSX Server

Market Leader Accelerates Mainstream Adoption of Enterprise-class Virtual Infrastructure

PALO ALTO, Calif., November 11, 2004 — VMware, Inc., the global leader in virtual infrastructure software for industry-standard systems, today announced aggressive new pricing of VMware GSX Server, its award-winning enterprise-class virtual infrastructure, effective immediately. VMware GSX Server for both Windows and Linux host operating systems is $1,400 for a 2-CPU license and $2,800 for an unlimited license that supports systems with up to 32 CPUs.

As the company continues its accelerated momentum and revenue growth, VMware is bringing increased affordability to VMware GSX Server. GSX Server, shipping for more than three years, is already the most proven, feature-rich hosted server virtualization product on the market, and the new price point will help customers deploy virtual infrastructure as widely as possible to improve server utilization and meet business demands.

"We're seeing phenomenal momentum in the enterprise for virtual infrastructure, including high demand for VMware GSX Server. Clearly, virtual infrastructure is fast becoming mainstream, with many thousands of VMware enterprise customers worldwide rolling out production deployments. This, along with our 200% year-over-year growth, is making it possible for us to more aggressively price GSX Server," said Michael Mullany, Vice President of Marketing at VMware. "Our goal is to make GSX Server even more attractive for enterprise IT since it is a popular starting point for virtual infrastructure deployments for many customers. GSX Server also provides the option for customers to seamlessly transition to data center-class VMware ESX Server, when they are ready to reap the benefits of enterprise-wide deployment."

VMware GSX Server offers the broadest hardware compatibility and support for the widest array of Windows and Linux operating systems of any VMware server virtualization platform. GSX Server also provides a direct upgrade path to VMware ESX Server, VMware's most powerful and scalable server virtualization product with support for Virtual SMP, fine-grained resource controls and VMotion instant migration of running virtual machines.

New Simplified Pricing and Licensing Structure for VMware GSX Server

VMware GSX Server is available in two versions: GSX Server 2-CPU license for smaller servers, and GSX Server unlimited CPU license which supports systems with up to 32 CPUs. Enterprises can purchase the unlimited CPU version and run GSX Server on any size machine or purchase the 2-CPU version for smaller servers. The result for customers is the lowest total acquisition cost for a virtualization solution in the market, without the inconvenience of paying for and tracking client access licenses and terminal services licenses.

A 30-day full-featured trial version of GSX Server can be downloaded directly from the VMware Web site at www.vmware.com.
