VMware Workstation Wins Software Development Magazine's Jolt Productivity Award

Software Development Bestows Top Honors on VMware Workstation for Second Consecutive Year

PALO ALTO, Calif., April 30, 2002 —VMware, Inc., the leading provider of virtual computing software for industry-standard computers, today announced that VMware Workstation, its desktop software for technical professionals, was awarded CMP's Software Development Jolt Productivity award in the "utilities" category. Last year, VMware Workstation received the Jolt Excellence award also in the "utilities" category.

The Jolt Productivity award was given to VMware Workstation for having "jolted" the development world with its significance, making the difficult task of creating corporate software faster, easier and more efficient. More than 700 products were submitted and a seasoned team of Software Development editors, expert advisers and columnists narrowed the field to 49 finalists across six categories of tools including: books; libraries, frameworks and components; languages and development environments; design and process tools; utilities; and Web sites and developer networks.

"This year's crop of winners clearly indicates that the spirit of innovation is alive and well in the software development sector," said John Reitano, technical editor for Software Development.

"Increasing productivity is always a good thing, and we are honored that VMware Workstation has been recognized for two consecutive years by Software Development Magazine for this," said Diane Greene, president and chief executive officer of VMware.
