VMware Co-Founder and Chief Scientist Receives ACM SIGOPS Mark Weiser Award
Dr. Mendel Rosenblum Recognized for His Creativity, Innovation and Vision in Operating Systems Research
PALO ALTO, Calif., December 30, 2002— VMware, Inc., the leading provider of virtual computing software for industry-standard computers, today announced that Dr. Mendel Rosenblum, VMware Co-Founder and Chief Scientist, was awarded the ACM SIGOPS Mark Weiser award for his creativity, innovation and vision in operating systems research.
The award is named in honor of Mark Weiser, a computing visionary recognized for his research accomplishments during his career at Xerox Parc. Dr. Rosenblum received the award at the Fifth Symposium on Operating Systems Design and Implementation held December 9-11, 2002 in Boston, Mass.
Dr. Rosenblum is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at Stanford University, where he leads a group focused on operating systems research. Together with his students, he developed the Hive operating system, the SimOS machine simulator and the Disco virtual machine monitor. Dr. Rosenblum holds Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in computer science from the University of California at Berkeley and a B.A. in mathematics from the University of Virginia.
