Annual Conference Will Focus on Big Data, Cloud Computing, Integration, NoSQL, REST and More
PALO ALTO, CA--(Marketwire - Oct 15, 2012) - VMware, Inc. (NYSE: VMW), the global leader in virtualization and cloud infrastructure, today announced the start of SpringOne 2GX 2012, a one-of-a-kind conference created for application developers, solution architects, web operations and IT teams who develop business applications, create multi-device aware web applications, design cloud architectures, and manage high performance infrastructure.
Considered the premier Spring, Groovy and Grails event, SpringOne will take place October 15-18 at the Washington Hilton in Washington, D.C. Presented by SpringSource and No Fluff Just Stuff, the show is one of this year's premier Java events with over 1,000 people in attendance and more than 100 sessions specifically tailored for developers using open source Spring technologies, Groovy and Grails, and Tomcat.
Attendees will receive straightforward technical training designed for software architects, programmers, developers and technical managers. In addition to featuring leading industry experts who share their practical and real-world experiences, extensive speaker interaction time is offered during and between sessions. Topics include: Spring Framework 3.2, Going Async with Push Notifications, A Client-Side UI Smackdown, Decomposing Applications for Deployability and Scalability, How to Build Big Data Pipelines for Hadoop using OSS and much more.
SpringOne 2GX 2012 presenters are not simply vendor representatives, but industry recognized subject matter experts and published authors who write the software developers use on a daily basis. Technical sessions will cover the latest in Spring, Grails and Groovy-related technologies and also analyze "New Application Architectures," highlighting:
- Intelligent Data: performing fast queries against large and unstructured data
- Intelligent Clouds: Push to Cloud models, Quality of Service, Elasticity, Scalability
- Intelligent Clients: support for HTML5, REST and HATEOAS driven user interface
- Architecture Evolution: from server side apps toward "Applications and Services"
"Spring has always offered deployment flexibility," said Adrian Colyer, CTO, Cloud Application Services, VMware. "In the early days this meant a choice of application servers, but now this extends to a choice of cloud platforms including our own Cloud Foundry™, Amazon, Google, Heroku and others. New Spring projects make developing for enterprise data simple: this once meant a choice of approaches for accessing a relational database, but today Spring extends to a range of NoSQL stores, Hadoop/Batch data processing, in-memory data grid capabilities, and even built-in Application Integration."
"The SpringOne 2GX event is an ideal venue to share and discuss the creative approaches being used to solve some of today's most complex issues," said Bryan Landerman, VP of Engineering, Dealer.com. "We are excited to share some of our own developments where we have leveraged advanced technologies with unconventional approaches in order to keep ourselves, and our customers, competitive and inspired."
Spring is the most popular application development framework for enterprise Java™. Zero Turnaround's Developer Productivity Report 2012, which garnered over 1,800 respondents providing their take on "the developer life" via 1,100 Java-focused surveys, names Spring MVC (Model, View, Controller) as the leading Java web framework at 30% adoption. For example:
- SpringSource offers two of the three top application frameworks in the survey: Spring is used by 56% of respondents, followed by hibernate at 54%, and Spring AspectJ at 13%
- Java Persistence API (JPA) adoption leads the standards adoption race at 44%, propelling a solid market for Spring Data technology
- Apache Tomcat dominates the survey results with 59% of respondents choosing this Application Server / Container. SpringSource committers contribute to Apache Tomcat, and Spring vFabric™ are built entirely on Tomcat 6+
- SpringSource's Groovy language also tops the list of Alternative JVM Languages at 17% adoption
