VMware vCenter™ Site Recovery Manager and VMware Storage vMotion™ Named 2008 Products of the Year by TechTarget’s Storage Magazine

VMware Takes Top Awards in Two Categories Based on Product Innovation, Performance, Ease of Integration, Functionality and Value

PALO ALTO, Calif., March 16, 2009 — VMware, Inc. (NYSE: VMW) the global leader in virtualization solutions from the desktop to the datacenter, today announced VMware vCenter™ Site Recovery Manager and VMware Storage vMotion™ won the top awards in two categories for TechTarget’s Storage magazine’s Products of the Year. VMware vCenter™ Site Recovery Manager, previously named VMware Site Recovery Manager, was awarded the Gold in “Backup and Disaster Recovery Software and Services” for its ability to simplify and automate disaster recovery processes, and VMware Storage vMotion™ also took Gold in “Storage Management Tools” for the ability to migrate virtual machine disk files within and across data storage systems with no downtime, ensuring continuous service availability and transaction integrity.

The awards were presented by the Storage and editorial staff, judged in conjunction with users, consultants and analysts. Awards were granted based on innovation, performance, ease of integration, functionality and value. According to Storage magazine, “VMware Site Recovery Manager ranked high in all of our evaluating categories and topped all backup and disaster recovery software and services for value. As one judge put it, ‘Increasing use of VMware [software] makes this software incredibly valuable to every organization.’ While other judges point out that implementing Site Recovery Manager takes some planning, all agree that the effort is worth it.”

Storage magazine continued, “Storage vMotion ‘set the standard for virtual guest availability,’ according to one judge. ‘It increases application uptime and IO flexibility – the reason most [people] buy VMware [software] today.’”

“Being recognized for these two Storage Products of the Year 2008 awards highlights how VMware virtualization technology provides compelling value in transforming how customers leverage their storage infrastructure,” said Raghu Raghuram, vice president, server business unit, VMware. “We are pleased to see VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager and VMware Storage vMotion recognized as easy-to-use, innovative products that address customers’ need to deliver the availability, flexibility, and simplified management that their applications demand.”

VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager was released in June 2008 as part of VMware’s suite of management and automation products for the datacenter.  It leverages virtualization to enable rapid, reliable, and manageable disaster recovery for virtualized environments.  By integrating closely with VMware vCenter Server and with storage replication software from VMware partners, it simplifies the setup and maintenance of recovery plans, enables non-disruptive automated tests of recovery, and automates the failover process.  This eliminates the slow, unreliable manual processes of traditional disaster recovery while ensuring that organizations can easily test and document their recovery plans.

VMware Storage vMotion, introduced in December 2007, enables live migration of virtual machine disks from one data storage system to another without disruption or downtime to applications and users. Administrators can dynamically balance storage workloads, address performance bottlenecks, and simplify storage refreshes by migrating virtual machine disks to the best available storage resource, minimizing service disruptions.
