Enterprise Mobility Solutions Company Reclaims Underutilized IT Resources, Increases Application Performance, and Enhances Customer Service Level Agreements
PALO ALTO, CA--(Marketwired - May 19, 2015) - VMware, Inc. (NYSE: VMW) today announced that Velocitor Solutions, a leading developer of enterprise mobile and wireless software solutions, has improved the overall efficiency and performance of its 100 percent virtualized environment with VMware vSphere® with Operations Management™. VMware vSphere with Operations Management delivers virtualization with consistent management, purpose-built to get the best performance, availability and efficiency out of customer infrastructure and applications from day one.
According to Velocitor Solutions, it identified idle and overprovisioned virtual machines in one of its three data centers and reclaimed more than 400 vCPUs and 1.0TB of RAM within 30 days of deploying VMware vSphere with Operations Management. The reclamation of those compute and memory resources enabled the company to delay the purchase of new hardware for a year.
"VMware vSphere with Operations Management takes the guesswork out of resource utilization, performance monitoring and capacity planning," said Michael Garcia, Network Engineer, Velocitor Solutions. "We have a small IT team that wears a lot of hats and we don't have the time to jump from console to console to get the IT details we need. VMware vSphere with Operations Management is a timesaver enabling us to monitor vSphere performance and capacity from a single unified management view."
Velocitor Successfully Rolls Out Customer Deployments with VMware
Headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., Velocitor specializes in the design, development and deployment of mobile and wireless software solutions. Velocitor's custom solutions help to improve the productivity, efficiency and customer service of companies in a variety of industries with field forces ranging from 10 to 10,000 mobile users. With a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model, Velocitor is recognized for the mobile device management offerings which have been amplified by VMware vSphere with Operations Management.
Velocitor was 100 percent virtualized including business critical applications such as Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SharePoint and Microsoft SQL Server, but it lacked granular insight into performance issues. Velocitor's IT staff deployed a trial version of VMware vSphere with Operations Management to gather data on health, performance and capacity of the virtual environment. Over time, VMware's management solution identified that a database server suffered from latency due to the overprovisioning of vCPUs. With that information, the IT staff right-sized the appropriate virtual machine, and database performance returned to normal to sub 1 millisecond response times. Following the trial, Velocitor's IT staff upgraded from VMware vSphere to VMware vSphere with Operations Management.
Beyond using VMware vSphere with Operations Management to improve infrastructure efficiency, Velocitor relies on it to support successful customer proofs of concept (PoCs) and deployments. The management solution tracks customer resource utilization during PoCs to help Velocitor confidently roll out customer solutions into production by provisioning precise compute and memory resources to meet Service Level Agreements at go-live and over time. By providing customers with the right amount of resources, Velocitor is able to offer them competitive prices while minimizing its own costs.
While Velocitor's IT team initially focused on the benefits of reclaiming IT resources and addressing performance issues, VMware vSphere with Operations Management is now an essential tool in daily administration and for capacity planning to accurately forecast the need for IT resources over time.
