Hitachi and VMware Announce Strategic Cloud Partnership to Deliver IT as a Service

Hitachi to Deliver Cloud Solutions Based on VMware vSphere and the VMware vFabric Cloud Application Platform to Financial Institutions in Asia

TOKYO and PALO ALTO, Calif. — June 9, 2011 — Hitachi Ltd. and VMware today announced a strategic partnership enabling Hitachi to deliver new cloud services to financial institutions in Asia. The new solution, Private Cloud for Finance Institutes, is based on VMware vSphere® and the VMware vFabric™ cloud application platform and will help Hitachi deliver IT as a Service to customers.

Japanese financial institutions are moving away from tightly coupled IT architectures in favor of virtualized infrastructures containing loosely coupled applications that can access a flexible pool of IT resources. This new model of delivering IT is designed to help customers simplify infrastructure management and improve business agility in a secure and flexible manner.

The new Private Cloud for Finance Institutes combines VMware's virtualization and cloud infrastructure expertise with Hitachi's experience in providing holistic, vertically integrated solutions to deliver cloud services for customers. Private Cloud for Finance Institutes includes the VMware vFabric platform, including VMware vFabric GemFire®, to enable application developers to create in-house applications with the simplicity offered by cloud computing. Private Cloud for Finance Institutes will enable customers to:

  • Drastically reduce IT system lifecycle costs
  • Reduce the burden of investments in maintaining existing IT systems, freeing up spending for more strategic and innovative initiatives
  • Realize a simple, expandable architecture
  • Reconfigure the system such that the merits of future innovations are quickly and easily adaptable
  • Greatly reduce business continuity and disaster recovery costs
  • Deliver on the pain points where cost is impeding full deployment

"Organizations across Asia are looking for ways to leverage modern IT infrastructures to achieve operational efficiency, increase scalability, and address critical business needs," said Ryoichi Nakazato COO of Information & Telecommunication Systems Company, Hitachi, Ltd. "Hitachi is now working with VMware to help financial institutions more easily realize the value of private cloud solutions and applications while providing the security and control they require."

"VMware is committed to delivering IT as a Service to organizations worldwide, increasing productivity, spurring innovation and simplifying deployment while improving business agility and reducing costs," said Tod Nielsen, co-president, Application Platform, VMware. "Our partnership with Hitachi and the new joint Private Cloud for Finance Institutes solution will bring the full benefits of cloud computing to financial institutions across Asia."

As part of the new partnership, Hitachi and VMware will also work together on continued technology collaboration and joint marketing initiatives.
