VMware Appoints Microsoft Veteran Tony Scott as Chief Information Officer

 

PALO ALTO, Calif., Aug. 26, 2013 –VMware, Inc. (NYSE: VMW), the global leader in virtualization and cloud infrastructure, today announced the appointment of Tony Scott to the role of senior vice president and chief information officer (CIO) of VMware. Scott will manage VMware’s global information technology organization, a group that manages critical technology systems supporting the company’s worldwide business operations. Scott will report to Pat Gelsinger, VMware’s chief executive officer.

A respected industry veteran, Scott brings more than 30 years of experience running global IT operations for leading corporations. Most recently, Scott served as corporate vice president and chief information officer of Microsoft Corp, where he was responsible for security, infrastructure, messaging and business applications for all of Microsoft, including support of the product groups, the corporate business groups, and the global sales and marketing organization. Before joining Microsoft, Scott served as senior vice president and chief information officer of The Walt Disney Co., and chief technology officer at General Motors Corp.

A member of CIO magazine’s CIO Hall of Fame, Scott has a bachelor of science in information systems management from the University of San Francisco and also holds a juris doctorate from Santa Clara University.
