VMware to Continue vCloud Air Global Expansion With New Service Location in Australia

Company Announces General Availability of Hybrid Cloud Service in Japan

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA and PALO ALTO, CA--(Marketwired - Nov 4, 2014) - VMware (NYSE: VMW), the global leader in virtualization and cloud infrastructure, today announced that it will extend VMware vCloud® Air™ (previously VMware vCloud® Hybrid Service™) to Australia. Complementing the VMware vCloud Air Network™ of service provider options, the new Australian service location will provide customers with a hybrid cloud option operated by VMware that addresses local compliance and data protection concerns. The service is expected to be available in Australia in the first half of 2015.

Additionally, the company announced vCloud Air will be generally available in Japan in the coming weeks, after completing a successful beta program that began in July of this year.

"VMware vCloud Air, combined with the VMware vCloud Air Network of service providers makes VMware the largest hybrid cloud network in the Asia Pacific region with more than 40 service locations in Asia," said Bill Fathers, executive vice president and general manager, Cloud Services Business Unit, VMware. "The new vCloud Air location provides the highly virtualized Australian market with a hybrid cloud service that extends existing investment in VMware vSphere to the public cloud."

VMware vCloud Air in Australia and Japan
Unlike other public cloud services, VMware vCloud Air enables organizations to extend their on-premises IT infrastructure seamlessly to the public cloud. The resulting hybrid cloud is compatible with customers' existing applications and allows them to build new cloud-native applications, delivering agility and efficiency to the business in a secure, reliable and compliant manner. IT departments can view, manage and operate this "best of both worlds" cloud environment in a unified way using the VMware vSphere® platform they already know and trust. The service is compatible with Hybrid Cloud Powered Services provided by the VMware vCloud Air Network of service providers, which includes providers operating more than 20 data centers in Australia.

Owned and operated by VMware, initial vCloud® Air™ deployments in Australia will be hosted out of Telstra's connected data centres. "Telstra is focused on simplifying cloud adoption and VMware vCloud Air is a world-class, production-ready environment capable of running our customers' mission-critical workloads," said Erez Yarkoni, executive director, Cloud, Telstra Global Enterprise and Services. "This is all from a single management interface customers already know, with the control and the agility necessary to deliver high performance and results -- a service offering we're excited to give our customers."

VMware also announced VMware vCloud® Air generally availability in Japan after a successful beta program that was announced in July 2014, with SoftBank Telecom Corp. and SoftBank Commerce & Service Corp. (SoftBank C&S). More than 50 companies participated in the beta, which will transition to general availability in Japan in the coming weeks and providing a true hybrid cloud for enterprises that can be cooperated transparently with their private cloud environment. Services available at launch include VMware vCloud Air Virtual Private Cloud, vCloud Air Dedicated Cloud and vCloud Air Disaster Recovery.
