To help Australian organisations bolster cybersecurity defences and ensure the protection of sensitive data, VMware has launched the VMware NSX Advanced Threat Prevention (ATP) Point of Presence (PoP) in Sydney.
The local PoP will provide on-shore capability to identify and mitigate sophisticated attacks in real-time, reducing the risk of data breaches and minimising response time. NSX ATP continuously analyses network traffic, application communications, and user behaviour to identify malicious activities. Through artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, it can detect and categorise threats such as malware, command-and-control communication, lateral movement attempts and data exfiltration in real-time.
Sophisticated ransomware attacks are rapidly on the rise, exploiting vulnerabilities in servers and operating systems, compromising critical systems and holding valuable data hostage. A key element of cybersecurity strategy to help contain and neutralise ransomware attacks is lateral movement prevention.
Lateral movement refers to the malicious activity of cybercriminals who gain access to the network via a low-value target, then blend-in with east-west traffic to gain access to high-value assets. By effectively restricting this movement, security teams can impede the attackers' progress and limit their ability to cause widespread damage. The new VMware NSX ATP PoP in Sydney is designed to enhance customers’ ability to identify and isolate these potential threats swiftly.
AI-powered analytics can identify anomalies, patterns, and behavioural changes within the network, enabling security teams to proactively respond and mitigate potential risks before they cause serious damage.
When tested by SE Labs, VMware NSX Network Detection and Response capability – a key aspect of the ATP PoP – was awarded a AAA excellence rating. SE Labs concluded the solution was able to detect and track every malware attack and hostile activity that occurred during the testing.
Improving security for Australian organisations
Recently, the Australian government announced its commitment to making Australia the most cyber-secure nation in the world by 2030 with its new national cyber security strategy. With the launch of the VMware NSX ATP PoP providing on-shore protection, this is an important step to improving the cyber posture of Australian organisations.
By prioritising lateral movement prevention and harnessing the power of AI, the launch of the local PoP will provide businesses in Australia with a robust defence against ransomware attacks and other sophisticated cyber threats.
