Customers and Partners in ANZ Are Benefitting from the VMware Cloud on AWS Consistent Hybrid Cloud Infrastructure to Migrate and Modernise Apps
Just over one year since local launch and partners are using VMware Cloud on AWS competencies to deliver value for customers’ unique needs
SYDNEY, November 19, 2019 – vFORUM Sydney – Since launching local availability of the VMware Cloud on AWS service just over one year ago, VMware, Inc. (NYSE: VMW) has experienced excitement for the solution in the Australia and New Zealand (ANZ). Customers are using VMware Cloud on AWS to support business growth, drive digital transformation, improve development cycles and optimise costs. A number of partners are earning their VMware Cloud on AWS Solution Competency, allowing them to help customers migrate and modernise applications with consistent hybrid cloud infrastructure and integrated Kubernetes support.
VMware Cloud on AWS is a jointly engineered service that brings VMware’s enterprise class software-defined data centre capabilities to Amazon Web Services (AWS), with optimised access to AWS services. The service offers ultra-fast cloud migration, powered by VMware HCX and vMotion combined with consistent hybrid cloud infrastructure and operations.
VMware Cloud on AWS is now available in 17 AWS regions globally and can be purchased from both AWS and VMware, and the companies’ respective partner networks. The solution was launched in Australia and New Zealand in August 2018. As of Q2 FY20, VMware Cloud on AWS customers globally had increased 4x, total VM numbers had increased 9x, the number of partners around the world with VMC Competency was up 3x, the number of available ISV partner validated solutions was up 3x.[1]
Locally, customers in ANZ are implementing VMware Cloud on AWS, alongside local partners holding the VMware Cloud on AWS Solution Competency.
Here’s what local customers Cenitex, nib and Department of Customer Service NSW have to say:
Cenitex supports more than 36,500 public servants, working across key agencies providing essential support services to the people of Victoria. By adopting VMware Cloud on AWS, Cenitex has reduced its data centre footprint, while gaining improved scalability and continuous expansion capabilities into the cloud. This adoption enabled Cenitex to build its virtual desktop services on-premises and in the AWS cloud. This provides the capacity to scale during unforeseen demand such as responding to emergencies or disruption to office buildings or public transport, as well as cater to people working remotely. Cenitex is leveraging this capability to build and offer disaster recovery options for applications with VMware Cloud on AWS, which reduces the cost requirements significantly and provides speed and agility to test disaster recovery.
Nav Pillai, Director of Digital Transformation, Cenitex, says: “Our customers want us to be responsive, resilient and cost effective to meet their changing needs. They expect technological innovation that will provide them with reliable, accessible services well into the future. The partnership with VMware has helped us reach a critical turning point in our digital transformation journey. We can now provide highly scalable, mission-critical services quickly and more efficiently to our government agencies which service the people of Victoria. At the completion of this project, we will be delivering a truly digital government experience that positions us as an agency leading the way not just in Australia, but globally.”
nib Group implemented VMware Cloud on AWS in order to expedite the closure of its seven data centres. The VMware Cloud on AWS platform is designed to better support the innovation agenda being pursued by the health and travel insurance group.
Michael Watterson, Head of IT Operations, nib Group, says: “nib Group has embraced a cloud-first strategy to drive business efficiency, agility and innovation. Our cloud vision is to provide the business with a common group platform which encourages a culture of innovation and experimentation whilst providing resiliency and reduced operating costs. We have chosen to implement VMware Cloud on AWS as it’s a known technology and provides a base for the team to reference existing skillsets whilst introducing cloud technologies to more traditional focused team members. The solution is helping nib Group make tangible and material progress towards our 2020 data centre exit goal.”
The Department of Customer Service NSW functions as a service provider which supports sustainable government finances, major public works and maintenance programs, government procurement, information and communications technology, corporate and shared services, consumer protection, and land and property administration of the government in New South Wales, Australia.
Richard Harvey, Senior Manager Cloud Services, Department of Customer Service NSW, says: “Working with VMware business partner, Tracer Cloud, we were able to migrate not only our most critical customer-facing applications to the public cloud, but thanks to the security and compliance of the VMware Cloud on AWS solution, we were also able to move applications that were originally flagged for private cloud. This allowed us to use public cloud solutions such as elastic file storage, and now places us in an excellent position to easily transform applications into other AWS cloud solutions in the future.
“We needed a knowledgeable partner to support us on this journey because we had an aggressive timeframe. Tracer Cloud designed and delivered our VMware Cloud on AWS solution with Megaport connectivity to provide a flexible, robust, scalable solution that was available in days, not months. Tracer Cloud and VMware were able to build the environment as a proof of concept, which gave us 60 days to prove the concept at a relatively low price before going into a production environment.”
Here’s what local partners, Tracer Cloud, CMD and Consegna Cloud have to say:
David Johnston, Founder and Lead Architect at Tracer Cloud says: “VMware Cloud on AWS fits perfectly with our company motto of ‘Cloud made easy’ because it provides customers with an express path to hybrid cloud and helps accelerate return on their technology investments. A good example is NSW Department of Customer Service, where Tracer Cloud delivered a detailed solution and proof of concept in under 30 days with minimal customer investment. Once it was verified, we put the solution into production in just four hours, which enabled the migration of critical systems in a matter of days. Now, the Department benefits from a hybrid cloud infrastructure which allows them to use on-premises, VMware Cloud on AWS or native AWS services, depending on their specific need. This is a true enabler of both short- and medium-term transformation.”
Andre Morgan, CEO at CMD, says: “As a VMware Cloud on AWS Solution Competency partner with a distinct transformation focus, CMD Solutions is well placed to assist organisations – particularly those in highly regulated environments – to make the move to VMware Cloud on AWS. We see VMware Cloud on AWS as a low-risk and more secure solution for supporting cloud strategies focused on unlocking innovation, scalability and greater efficiency. This is the case at nib Group, where we've worked with the nib team to adopt this technology to complement its AWS cloud-native transformation platform. The solution is providing a conservative migration approach for selected workloads and simplifying its operational environment."
John Taylor, Managing Director at Consegna Cloud says: “At Consegna we focus on forging true partnerships with our clients as they move to the cloud, to ensure they gain the greatest benefit and execute their transformation strategies. Consegna’s partnership with VMware is valuable as it complements our AWS consulting delivery capabilities. VMware Cloud on AWS helps Consegna drive application modernisation for clients, enhancing traditional application and cloud footprints. This enables us to establish focused Cloud Centre of Excellence goals for customers. Achieving the VMware Cloud on AWS Solution Competency has advanced our client cloud delivery offerings, as we continue to drive new opportunities for migration and VMware Cloud on AWS."
