A Community on Fire: My Reflections on VMUG Connect 2025 in St. Louis

When I look back on #VMUGConnect25 (Apr. 23-25 in St. Louis), one thing is crystal clear: this community is thriving, and it’s driving real momentum. VMUG Connect really was where Progress Powered by Community and that progress and sense of community wasn’t just on the signage or printed in the program guide. It was everywhere. You could feel it in the air, in the laughter, the learning, and the late-night conversations.

A Toast to Community

We kicked things off in true St. Louis style at the Anheuser-Busch Biergarten. There’s something about gathering over good food, local brews, and friendly conversation that just brings people together. It felt like a family reunion—with a whole lot of tech talk mixed in. Folks were already trading ideas and stories before we even made it to Day 2. Y’all know how to start strong.

Sessions that Delivered Real Value

Thursday morning, it was game on. The technical sessions were packed, and the hallways were buzzing. VMware experts dove into everything from VCF 9 to cloud-smart architecture, AI, and security. The hands-on labs, VCF exam rooms and peer panels were all nearly electric – you could see the connections being made in real time. When community members share what’s working—and what’s not—that’s where real learning happens.

Inspiration on the Main Stage

Keynote speaker Pablo Holman didn’t just deliver a message—he lit a fire. He challenged us to step outside our comfort zones and to embrace uncertainty as the birthplace of innovation. Then we had a powerful conversation with Broadcom President and CEO Hock Tan that gave us a look behind the curtain at Broadcom’s direction and commitment to customers. And the real-world stories from our members? That’s what it’s all about.

Engagement in Every Corner

Of course, we had ourselves a little fun, too. Professional headshots, a buzzing photo booth, prize drawings, and a VMUG Lounge that felt like your favorite pit stop to chat or catch up on emails.

It Takes a Village

None of this happens without our sponsors, speakers, volunteers, and staff. Thank y’all for your time, talent, and investment. You helped make this experience one for the books. Special thanks to our sponsors: Broadcom, Vali Cyber, NetApp, IBM, TD SYNNEX/LRS, Pure Storage, Druva, Xentegra, Uila, 27 Virtual, CDW, Carahsoft, ClearBridge Technology and World Wide Technology.

From where I stood—looking out over a buzzing Exhibit Hall full of connection, curiosity, and collaboration—it was obvious that Progress Powered by Community isn’t just a slogan - It’s what VMUG is all about.

We’re already looking down the road to the next VMUG Connect. Until then, keep learning, keep leading, and most of all—keep showing up for each other.

See y’all soon.
