MILAN, Italy (September 23, 2021) -- VMware today announces VMware Cloud on AWS is now available in the AWS Europe (Milan) region. This brings the total number of VMware Cloud on AWS available regions in Europe to six. With VMware Cloud on AWS, customers in Italy have access to a hybrid cloud service that is available to support workloads in Italy.
VMware and AWS have a deep and extensive partnership. Each company has created dedicated sales, solutions architects, and customer success teams to help customers realize the benefits of VMware Cloud on AWS. AWS and VMware engineers, support, and salespeople work together to develop bespoke solutions for customers.
"Working with AWS, we are pleased to deliver VMware Cloud on AWS, our hybrid cloud service, to customers in Italy," said Raffaele Gigantino, Country Manager at VMware in Italy. "Italian customers can use VMware Cloud on AWS to deploy, migrate, and better protect applications at scale, while leveraging innovative capabilities from both AWS and VMware to accelerate their application modernization initiatives."
"With VMware Cloud on AWS, customers can take their existing VMware technology investments and get the benefits of AWS," said Carlo Giorgi, Country Manager Italy, Amazon Web Services. "Italian organizations are highly innovative and use technology to transform industries from automotive and manufacturing to energy and financial services. The arrival of VMware Cloud on AWS to the Milan region means they can run mission critical workloads in Italy, while taking advantage of the flexibility, scalability, and increased security of the AWS cloud."
The availability of VMware Cloud on AWS aims to support the Italian National Recovery and Resilience Plan (Piano Nazionale di Ripresa e Resilienza) and the creation of a national cloud for public administration, by giving Italian customers greater control, interoperability, and local governance of their data.
VMware Cloud on AWS is powered by VMware Cloud Foundation. The service runs on dedicated, elastic, bare-metal AWS infrastructure to better protect sensitive workloads. Customers can deploy complete VMware software-defined data centers running on AWS in a short time frame. In addition, capacity can be scaled up and down quickly without the need to buy new hardware1. With VMware Cloud on AWS, customers in Italy may achieve cost savings, faster migration times, and less unplanned downtime than previous environments.
VMware Cloud on AWS is deployed by customers globally across a broad range of industries including transportation, healthcare, financial services, manufacturing, oil and gas, government, education, professional services, and technology. VMware Cloud on AWS supports use cases such as application and cloud migration and modernization, data center extension, disaster recovery as a service, and cloud-delivered virtual desktop infrastructure.
“The AWS and VMware partnership allows us to deliver a faster, easier, and cost-effective path to the hybrid cloud, enabling faster time-to-market and increased innovation,” Raffaele Gigantino added. “VMware Cloud on AWS provides full operational consistency with on-premises vSphere environments. This enables bi-directional workload portability, and the ability to use and extend established on-premises enterprise security, governance, and operational policies to applications and workloads running in AWS.”
VMware provides customers with the chance to choose among a broad range of strategic IT partners to help them navigate through their cloud journey. VMware enables strategic partners in Italy to grow their hybrid cloud skills and capabilities on VMware Cloud on AWS through the VMware Partner Connect program.
