VMware Partners With Novell to Provide Innovative Training Solution

With virtualization software at the core of Novell Quick Classroom(tm), training partners can manage classes more quickly, safely and at lower cost

San Diego (Novell Edge 2001), June 11, 2001 -- VMware, Inc., the leader in virtualization software for Intel computers, announced today that it has teamed up with Novell, Inc., the leading provider of Net services software, to provide an innovative training solution. Available immediately worldwide to Novell authorized education partners, Novell Quick Classroom allows for dramatically reduced classroom set-up time for Novell classes -- freeing technical staff, equipment and classrooms for billable training activities.

Classroom training -- the virtual way

At the core of the new solution is VMware's patent-pending virtualization technology that allows standard operating systems and their applications to run in secure and transportable virtual machines on physical computers -- from laptops to high-end servers -- with high performance. Novell's Quick Classroom leverages VMware Workstation, VMware's award-winning desktop product. By virtualizing PC hardware resources in secure, safe environments, VMware Workstation enables Novell Quick Classroom to provide numerous benefits to its training partners, including:

  • Reduced set-up time for classrooms
  • Students can freely experiment without damage to the operating system and its applications
  • Training centers can better manage their hardware resources -- VMware Workstation allows a complete network to be built on a single computer

"VMware's innovative technology is bringing the business benefits of virtualization to many different markets," said Debbie Maucieri, vice president of Novell Education worldwide. "By incorporating VMware Workstation, Quick Classroom allows training partners to reduce their costs -- bringing more dollars to their bottom line."

"We are extremely pleased to be working with industry-leadeNovell on this trend-setting solution," said Diane Greene, president, CEO, and co-founder for VMware. "Novell Quick Classroom uses the power, flexibility, and security of VMware Workstation to leverage tight resources and drive higher quality educational offerings."
