VMware Wins PC Magazine Technical Excellence Award

Palo Alto, Calif., November 14, 2000— PC Magazine has named VMware, Inc. ( the winner of its year 2000 Technical Excellence Award for software. The award was announced during the magazine's annual awards ceremony last night at Comdex in Las Vegas.

PC Magazine cited VMware software's ability to run multiple operating systems simultaneously or multiple instances of the same operating system on the same machine. The editors noted, "Unlike emulators, which merely interpret foreign applications (and therefore run slowly), VMware manages resources efficiently and separately. In fact, if you have plenty of RAM, applications running on these virtual machines will perform as well as those running on actual machines. And each virtual machine runs in its own protected space, so crashes in one VM won't affect other VMs that are running."

"VMware has more than 500,000 registered users in more than 100 countries around the world and everyday, they remind us of the power and versatility of our technology and the products we develop that use it," said Diane Greene, founder, president and chief executive officer of VMware. "We are very pleased that one of our industry's most respected publications also has recognized our technical excellence."
