As organizations strive to modernize their IT environments, the need for practical, hands-on expertise has never been greater. Broadcom expects every Broadcom Knight to have an environment, a solution lab, where they can demonstrate the value of VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) and their role as a Knight. The Broadcom team built the Reference Architecture (RA) of the solution lab, providing a foundation that partners could use to customize and extend to meet the specific needs of their Knights and the customers that they support.
With Broadcom’s reference architecture, partners can build large, shared solution labs for all their Knights while others design smaller or even home labs. 27Virtual built a solution lab for our use that is accessible to all 27 Virtual Knights.
Meeting the Modernization Challenge
Today’s enterprises face a complex landscape. They are not only modernizing across cloud platforms, networking, security, and automation, but also preparing for the next wave of innovation—containerized applications and AI-driven workloads. Customers want to innovate, but they must also manage deployment costs, reduce risk, and ensure new capabilities fit seamlessly into their operational environments.
Broadcom is empowering its partners to help organizations meet these challenges. As Brian Moats, senior vice president of global commercial sales and partners at Broadcom, recently highlighted, partners are designing and deploying VCF environments at scale to help customers solve real business problems. The VCF Knights Solution Lab is a direct response to this endeavor, providing a platform where partners can gain the hands-on experience required to deliver real valuable business outcomes.
The Vision Behind the VCF Knights Solution Lab
At 27 Virtual, I help businesses architect, deploy and educate their teams on private cloud environments. I’ve worked as a Broadcom VCF Knight and VMware vExpert for more than 16 years, acquiring vast experience across VMware technologies. Based on this, I was tapped to help design and test this VCF Knights Solution Lab to help 27 Virtual VCF Knights demonstrate the key capabilities of a VCF deployment. All 27 Virtual Knights can use the platform to test use cases, validate architectures, and demonstrate phased adoption paths before customers commit resources at scale.
Inside the 27 Virtual VCF Knights Solution Lab
The VCF Knights Solution Lab kit documents the step-by-step process of building a 3-node VCF solution lab with a focus on hands-on deployment and configuration. It covers hardware selection (MINISFORUM MS-A2 nodes, MikroTik CRS309 switch), network setup with multiple VLANs, and detailed ESXi and VCF 9.0.2 installation procedures. The guide includes practical troubleshooting tips, lessons learned (such as hardware compatibility and network configuration), and emphasizes the value of the Broadcom Knights program for technical enablement and customer solutions. The result is a fully functional VCF lab environment suitable for demonstration, learning, and testing most of the advanced VMware VCF technologies.
The VCF Knights Solution Lab provides a practical, repeatable environment where Broadcom VCF Knights can build, test, validate, and showcase VMware Cloud Foundation solutions. This lab is not just about standing up infrastructure; it enables partners to:
- Accelerate Learning: Partners can deepen their technical skills by working directly with VCF in a controlled, hands-on setting.
- Validate Solutions: The lab allows for real-world testing of architectures and use cases, ensuring interoperability and performance before customer deployment.
- Support Customer Engagements: Partners can demonstrate end-to-end VCF capabilities live, moving beyond slideware to show actual outcomes.
- Create Repeatable Frameworks: The lab provides a blueprint for delivering consistent, proven solutions across multiple customer environments.
The VCF Knights Solution Lab also provides tangible value for customers including:
- Reduced Risk: Partners can test and validate designs in the lab, ensuring that proposed architectures work as intended before they are deployed in production.
- Faster Problem Solving: Issues encountered in the field can be replicated and resolved in a safe, controlled environment.
- Stronger Demonstrations: Customers gain a clearer understanding of how VCF capabilities support modernization, cyber resilience, and operational efficiency through live demonstrations.
From Strategy to Execution
The VCF Knights Solution Lab is more than just a technical resource; it is a practical expression of Broadcom’s partner-first philosophy. Adoption does not happen through messaging alone; it happens when strategy is paired with experience, and when partners can move from describing value to demonstrating it. The lab turns Broadcom’s priorities around value, outcomes, and adoption into something customers can see, test, and trust.
Looking Ahead: The Future of Partner Enablement
As Broadcom continues to invest in enablement through programs like Broadcom VCF Knights, activation events, and hands-on experiences, the role of partner-led labs will only grow in importance. For customers, this means greater confidence and reduced risk. For partners, it offers a powerful way to differentiate and lead. And for the broader ecosystem, it marks a decisive step from alignment to execution.
The VCF Knights Solution Lab designed for 27 Virtual stands as a testament to Broadcom’s belief that true adoption is built through experience. By empowering partners to deliver real-world solutions, Broadcom is helping customers modernize with confidence and shaping the future of IT transformation.
