Achievers

Achievers are forerunners blazing new trails.

The Customer Achievement Award Winners of the Year use technology strategically to overcome business challenges, operate sustainably, improve customer experiences, and inspire opportunities.

Accuris, Customer Achievement Award Winner of the Year, Americas

After becoming an independent entity following the S&P Global divestiture of IHS Markit Engineering Solutions, Accuris faced the monumental challenge of relocating mission-critical applications from S&P data centers. These applications are crucial for customers, bring significant real-world impacts, and require a flawless transition to ensure uninterrupted operations.

Accuris began executing the phased migration of approximately 1,000 virtual machines and over 4 TBs of data from December 2023 to February 2024, utilizing VMware Cloud Foundation software as a managed service through VMware Cloud on AWS. Despite challenges inherent in such large-scale migrations, Accuris demonstrated operational, technical excellence. Accuris’s achievements underscore its commitment to delivering superior customer experiences while embracing cutting-edge technology to drive business growth and agility.

National Grid, Customer Achievement Award Winner of the Year, Europe, Middle East and Africa

In 2020, National Grid embarked on a 10-year program to reduce carbon emissions from its IT systems across all 14 data centers, starting with a combined output of 217.91 CO2 tons/month. With an ambitious goal of operating across only two data centers with a combined output of <10 CO2 tons/month, the company is already on track, reducing its carbon output to 39.08 CO2 tons/month in 2024.

Looking toward 2030, National Grid is evaluating opportunities to reduce carbon output after adopting a software-defined data center model to virtualize more infrastructure with VMware Cloud Foundation.

Honda Motor, Customer Achievement Award Winner of the Year, Asia Pacific and Japan

As an automotive manufacturer, improving factory efficiency is a high priority for Honda Motor. By working with VMware Tanzu Labs, Honda Motor Body Production Engineering Division formed a dream team of product managers, designers, and developers to build an operation monitoring system to be released six weeks after inception.

Employees from this division can now view factory line information on their smartphones, from anywhere, at any time, to ensure the factory is highly productive. With the contribution of VMware Tanzu Platform, over 500 updates have been successfully deployed to the environment, contributing to the CI/CD environment’s availability in only two days.

Innovators

Innovators are tech visionaries shaping tomorrow.

These customer leaders are delivering extraordinary value to both their customers and employees as they advance along their transformational journeys.

Accuris, Cloud Innovator

By leveraging VMware Cloud Foundation as the underlying infrastructure for VMware Cloud on AWS, Accuris ensured the seamless relocation of mission-critical applications from S&P data centers to the cloud and laid the foundation for future scalability and agility. This cloud migration initiative positions Accuris to achieve sustained success in an increasingly dynamic digital landscape.

The completed Accuris migration project exemplifies innovation, resilience and excellence in cloud technology deployment. The company’s strategic use of VMware Cloud Foundation has redefined industry standards for cloud migration initiatives, providing Accuris:

  • Minimized disruption and maximized efficiency
  • Unparalleled foresight and strategic planning
  • Uninterrupted operations

Mizuho Research and Technologies, Ltd., Security Innovator

With its infrastructure hardware and software maintenance engagement expiring in 2025, the team at Mizuho Research and Technologies knew it was essential to reduce the load on its current operations. Their goal was to achieve trend-setting resilience and enhanced cybersecurity and flexibility, all while limiting service price increases.

Using VMware technologies, Mizuho now:

  • Adopts the latest architecture to enable a quick and flexible response to security issues
  • Achieves significant cost savings through self-service on version upgrades
  • Built an advanced, secure infrastructure optimized to handle emergency patches

National Grid, Edge Innovator

National Grid is responsible for providing energy more efficiently throughout the UK, placing the business at the heart of a clean, fair, and affordable energy future. The transition to more mixed, renewable sources presents a challenge to traditional systems. National Grid recognizes the need for digitization and data transparency to improve the overall future of the grid.

VMware is working with National Grid to evaluate virtualized protection and control applications in its infrastructure. VMware delivers support for real-time operating system workloads, which is a key requirement for modernizing the energy network. With the VMware Edge Compute Stack, National Grid expects to see the following outcomes:

  • A validated pathway to application modernization
  • Application and infrastructure lifecycle management
  • Infrastructure operating configuration desired state management

DZ BANK AG, Modern Apps Innovator

Within its Cloud strategy, DZ BANK has already moved some of its business services to a public Cloud environment, utilizing Kubernetes and microservices architectures. In order to be able to offer a cloud native platform within its on-premises data center, DZ BANK opted for VMware.

The bank’s solution features a resilient & scalable on-premises Kubernetes environment based on VMware. This includes VMware vSphere IaaS Control Plane (former vSphere with Tanzu), VMware Tanzu Mission Control and VMware Avi Load Balancer.

With this platform DZ BANK is able to:

  • Reduce complexity associated with managing separate environments for traditional and cloud native applications
  • Comply with data sovereignty and regulatory compliance
  • Support existing operating models for traditional and cloud native applications

This transition has boosted agility, scalability and innovation while complying with European and Federal financial regulations, including DORA, MaRisk, BAIT and associated Cloud Exit strategies.

Heroes

Heroes embrace technology for the greater good.

These customers strive to improve our evolving, complex world by pioneering modern, innovative technology and placing customer satisfaction at the heart of everything they do.

French Ministry of National Education and Youth, Hero for Good

The French Ministry of National Education and Youth manages 13 million students, 19 million parents/guardians and 58,910 schools. The ministry has supported digital tech for education, tele-services, and various information systems—managing up to 400 in-house—all possible with VMware technologies.

Over the last 13 years, the Ministry of National Education has consolidated its information systems, partnering with VMware since 2004 to expand virtualization across the entire organization. In just eight months’ time, the Ministry rolled out VMware Cloud Foundation on its own platform to accelerate and empower developers, provide security and resilience for the academies’ IT systems, and offer hosting conditions that comply with eco-responsibility and energy consumption standards.

Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato (IPZS), Customer Experiences Hero

IPZS, the Italian Mint and Printing Institute, is a public service provider for the Italian government primarily responsible for producing critical services such as identity cards, passports, postage stamps, and anti-counterfeiting solutions for its citizens. The organization has been entrusted with the responsibility of deploying the Italian version of the European Digital Identity (EUDI) Wallet initiative, making Italy the first country to successfully implement this project.

As part of a transformational program to modernize its infrastructure, IPZS created a new modern Digital Application Platform (DAP) using VMware Cloud Foundation, VMware Tanzu Platform for Kubernetes and Tanzu RabbitMQ. This has enabled faster and more secure software development, deployment, and maintenance, ensuring the reliability and scalability of Italy’s EUDI Wallet.

The successful deployment of Italy’s EUDI Wallet marks a significant milestone in the European Union’s efforts to create a secure and user-friendly digital identity ecosystem. This project sets a precedent for other European countries to follow, and showcases the IPZS’s commitment to innovation and digital transformation in the public sector.
