VMware, Inc. (NYSE: VMW), a global leader in cloud infrastructure and business mobility, today announced the latest release of the industry-leading VMware AirWatch® Enterprise Mobility Management™ (EMM) platform. AirWatch 8.3 will expand VMware's digital workspace strategy and VMware Workspace ONE platform by increasing value for both users and administrators to embrace business mobility. With updates that will grow user confidence and adoption, eliminate the need for passwords and increase security, VMware will deliver the platform for organizations to advance mobile initiatives.
"AirWatch 8.3 is key enabler for the digital workspace," said Noah Wasmer, senior vice president of mobile products, End-User Computing, VMware. "Employees will be able to access virtually any app with one-click in a new mobile experience that's focused on protecting privacy. For administrators, AirWatch 8.3 will facilitate new workflows for line of business built on the VMware foundation of world-class security and management."
Empowering Users to Change the Way Work Gets Done
The key to a successful mobility program is user adoption, and employees expect the enterprise experience to reflect the simplicity and ease of use mobility brings to their personal lives. AirWatch 8.3 will support the VMwareWorkspace ONE app to organize app access and eliminate the need for passwords, expand the AirWatch Privacy First program with a user-facing website and visual privacy notice to mitigate concerns through transparent privacy education and introduce a redesigned VMware AirWatch Content Locker™.
To deliver mobile solutions that streamline access to applications, the latest release of AirWatch will empower enterprises to bring consumer-simple and streamlined experiences to enterprise apps. AirWatch 8.3 is designed to support the Workspace ONE app and will allow users to access any application -- native, web or remote -- through a single application catalog across every device. One-touch mobile single sign-on (SSO) allows users to access these apps without passwords or complex PIN challenges by leveraging an industry-first SATS (secure app token system). VMware developed the patent-pending SATS technology to enable true SSO across desktop, mobile native and cloud applications. This unified app catalog will give users consolidated access to corporate apps in a secure mobile application management (MAM) container.
Earning a user's trust is another significant facet to user adoption in successful mobile programs. AirWatch 8.3 will expand the AirWatch Privacy First Program with a user-facing website and visual privacy app to provide transparent education to address privacy concerns. The new website, WhatIsAirWatch.com and visual privacy app on a user's device educates users on the value of BYOD for their personal efficiency and informs users that AirWatch's mobile management system separates work and personal data, preventing IT from capturing personal information such as texts, personal emails, photos and more. To further promote user trust, especially for corporate owned devices, the AirWatch administrator console will now have a Privacy Officer role to delegate privacy policy management, and only the Privacy Offer will be able to edit privacy policies, adding another layer of security for end-users.
AirWatch also introduced a completely redesigned AirWatch Content Locker for iOS for secure content aggregation across various storage repositories. The updated and user-friendly app brings intuitive navigation, improved search across content repositories and quick access to important content right from the home screen.
Delivering an Intelligent, Secure Digital Workspace for IT
Enablement and security are top of mind for IT as businesses shift to mobile, and selecting an EMM solution is just one piece of the mobility puzzle. IT must also select the apps, configurations, policies and security requirements for their mobility initiatives. To help IT harness collective insights and advance their mobile programs, AirWatch 8.3 introduces industry templates, conditional access to mobile apps and advanced device-to-datacenter security with expanded integration between AirWatch andVMware NSX network virtualization.
Transforming business processes through mobile requires a specific set of apps, configurations and policies. With more than 62,000 VMware End-User Computing customers, VMware harnessed insights from thousands of mobile deployments to determine the best way to perform industry-specific workflows. Based on anonymous aggregated data and intelligence and working with Apple, AirWatch 8.3 introduces industry templates, intelligent wizard-driven workflows that take the complexity out of optimizing digital workflows. Now, every IT admin will be able to access simple, smart and data-driven templates that identify and recommend the best iOS apps, configurations and policies for their business initiatives.
AirWatch 8.3 also introduces conditional access to work applications, powered by VMware Identity Manager™. This authentication module provides only compliant, managed mobile apps with access an organization's business systems. Leveraging the patent-pending VMware SATS technology and native OS controls, IT will be able to provide conditional access to every app in the app store with no SDK, app wrapping or code changes required. This module will be able to provide a better experience for users by eliminating the need for passwords to access these apps while at the same time making them more secure.
In addition to apps, IT must also protect the datacenter and mobile access to internal resources. AirWatch 8.3 will expand the integration with VMware NSX to provide advanced security between an AirWatch-managed device and the VMware NSX micro-segmented cloud data center. Administrators will be able to dynamically set policies between AirWatch and VMware NSX from a single console, better securing their digital workspace by limiting the footprint mobile apps, data, devices and networks have inside the datacenter connection. VMware NSX combined with AirWatch is another example of two great VMware technologies coming together to form the next-generation security model.
