VMware Simplifies Monitoring of Zimbra Appliance with vCenter Hyperic

Zimbra Appliance Now Includes Embedded vCenter Hyperic Application Performance Management Capabilities

PALO ALTO, Calif. – Nov. 17, 2010 – VMware, Inc. (NYSE: VMW), the global leader in virtualization and cloud infrastructure, today announced that VMware vCenter™ Hyperic, is now offered as part of VMware Zimbra® Appliance, an enterprise-class email and collaboration solution delivered as a virtual appliance. This integration brings the award-winning vCenter Hyperic application performance monitoring technology to Zimbra Appliance administrators, providing them with a faster, more efficient way to ensure that critical email and collaboration services are always available to their end users.

Integrated as part of Zimbra Appliance and requiring no additional setup, Hyperic gives Zimbra administrators the ability to more rapidly pinpoint, correct, and prevent application performance problems wherever they occur in the application infrastructure. As a result, administrators have up-to-the-minute insight into a comprehensive set of performance metrics related to availability, throughput and utilization that enables them to alert team members on a wide range of issues and to rapidly determine root cause.

“Contegix is committed to providing our customers with the best hosting services possible,” said Matthew Porter, CEO and co-founder of Contegix. “The combination of Hyperic and Zimbra® Appliance increases our visibility into how customers are using email and collaboration. It enables us to increase our productivity and efficiency in managing this critical part of this infrastructure, while simultaneously helping our customers make smarter business decisions.”

“The integration of Hyperic with Zimbra® Appliance provides Zimbra administrators with visibility into hundreds of performance metrics, providing the most comprehensive Zimbra monitoring capabilities available,” said Al Sargent, VMware senior product marketing manager. “With this deep visibility, system administrators can rapidly address performance issues before they are raised by Zimbra end users and ensure that they fulfill Zimbra availability SLAs.”

“Since VMware acquired Zimbra earlier this year, we have been able to offer our customers access to the award-winning line of VMware products, first VMware vSphere™, and now vCenter™ Hyperic” said Jim Morrisroe, VMware vice president, Zimbra products. “This solution provides Zimbra® customers with an easier way to monitor application infrastructure and further delivers on our mission to provide out-of-the-box collaboration solutions. Zimbra Appliance users can expect less downtime and administrators can more readily diagnose application performance issues before they occur.”

Continuing to simplify IT for administrators

With vCenter Hyperic, VMware vSphere customers who are running Zimbra Appliance realize additional benefits including:

  • Alert on problems as soon as they occur – Hyperic can alert Zimbra administrators within a minute of when a performance problem is discovered. Hyperic’s flexible alerting allows alert recipients to vary based on problem type, time of day and escalation workflows.
  • Automated problem resolution – Hyperic control actions can automatically implement problem fixes, such as restarting a mail server and reducing the number of off-hours issues that demand Zimbra administrator attention.
  • Rapid diagnosis of performance problems – Zimbra administrators now have complete insight into everything they need to know to quickly pinpoint the root cause of service problems, enabling them to restore service levels with a minimum impact on business productivity.
